A Life Dissembled – New book launching October 2026

Ellie is a young psychologist living in Perth, Western Australia. Her best friend and adoptive sister Sarah has spent the last decade in London; yet despite the distance, the two women remain fiercely close.

When Sarah dies unexpectedly, Ellie flies to London to pack up her sister’s life and bring her home one last time. Shattered by grief and unable to accept that Sarah died by suicide, Ellie moves through the task in a daze – until she finds Sarah’s journals.

What she reads stops her cold. The journals reveal a version of Sarah’s life Ellie never knew existed: years of secrets and what looks like a deeply controlling relationship with Sarah’s long-term boyfriend, Thomas. The more Ellie reads, the more one question takes hold: did Thomas play a role in Sarah’s death?

‘Tasha Broomhall’s beguiling debut novel is a forensic examination of circumstances around a family bereavement, made compelling by the author’s insight into the human condition. Her characters are memorable for their depth: they arrive on the page fully formed, people like us, grappling with corporeal existence and struggling to make sense of things in an oft-messy world. Impressive.’
Ken Spillman, Award-Winning Author

‘Thought-provoking, compassionate, and unforgettable, this is a story that deserves to be widely read and thoughtfully discussed.’
Dr Jodie Fleming, Clinical & Health Psychologist, Author

A powerful and poignant book that will leave you thinking about your life, your choices and how much you really know those closest to you. A heartfelt, honest and important reminder about; family, connection, community and the power of relationships. If you need a reminder to tell those closest to you that you love them, this is it.
