Do you know where you’re sleeping tonight? Do you know whether you will find food or shelter…?
Imagine what this does to your state of mind. The sad reality is there are some 105,000 Australians each day who cannot answer those questions nor will know where these simple necessities will come from that we take for granted, one of which being the basic meal. Here in Perth, some of these people are being supported each evening by the generous volunteers from one of our fellow supporters, Manna Inc.
What started as a kind gesture from retired farmers Bev and John Lowe who decided to hand out some soup on a cold, wet winters day has grown into a full time voluntary operation 7 days a week serving over 250 Hot n Healthy Meals to the less fortunate. For someone who’s homeless it can do wonders for your mental well being knowing that there are people who care and you are at least fed. This service relies solely on the donations of Manna’s kind supporters and to help keep this service running they are hosting their inaugural community sleep out – “Homeless for a Night.”
This will take place on Saturday 3rd May 2014 at Ascot Racecourse where people will get to sample what it’s like to be homeless for a brief time and experience some of the hardship they face each might. This will be Perth’s largest event of this kind as the whole community can get involved and do their part for the less fortunate. So if you would like to participate then visit the Manna website to either register yourself or sponsor someone you know.
Corporate sponserships are also still available. They are aiming to raise enough funds to provide 10,000 meals equating to approximately $70,000. That may sound like a small target compared to some but all proceeds go directly to the Hot N Healthy Meals program of providing filling, nutritious meals to the homeless. That’s one less thing for them to worry about.
