THREE WA organisations have joined forces to help companies slash the costs mental health issues can have on their operations and staff.
The collaboration is between leading drug and alcohol counselling and support services provider Holyoake, which has a Merredin office, psychological services and training provider Centrecare Corporate, and workplace mental health consultants and trainers Blooming Minds.
“Corporate wellness is increasingly a priority in many organisations but the emphasis is often on physical health, with mental health lagging behind,” Holyoake chief executive Angie Paskevicius said.
“We’re hopeful this collaboration will help turn around that worrying trend by offering companies easy access to a holistic range of programs to help them reduce the cost of mental health issues on their team members and bottom line.”
Blooming Minds director Tasha Broomhall said research confirmed Australian businesses lose $10.9 billion a year and 18 million work days by failing to address mental health issues in the workplace.
The same research, released recently by Price Waterhouse Coopers and beyondblue found for each $1 invested in mental health in the workplace, there is a $2.30 average return on investment.
“It’s been shown that employees with a positive mood are 31 per cent more productive, achieve 37 per cent more sales and experience 300 per cent more creativity – these are huge benefits,” Ms Broomhall said.
