Laughter Yoga

Laughter Yoga is a well being exercise run in Perth by Peter Schupp. It’s a system of clapping, breathing and making actions while “fake it till you make it” laughing exercises eventually create real laughter. The end result is a release of stress, awakens your body with endorphins and promotes life with a positive outlook. The Yoga in Laughter Yoga is based on the breathing technique of Kapalbhati Pranayama which is an intensive breathing exercise.

Peter believes the real bottom line in business is affected by healthy workplaces. A stressed workplace leads to staff fatigue, errors and reduced staff retention. A workplace that is enjoyable increases staff retention, creates better quality work and creates an environment where better decisions and creative ideas are born. This is so important when building a successful business.

The demands and difficulties of a workplace do not change as they are out of our hands but the ability to work through them with less stress filters down across the whole team. laughter Yoga helps develop positive perception.

Peter offers revitalising sessions for development days with previous clients including the OPSM executive sales team, APPEA, Cirque du Soleil, the Little Feet Festival Stirling, the Buddha Light International and Sydney Mardi Gras. There are so many times and places that a laughter session willl make you feel great so it has its place everywhere at anytime.

A study from the Deakin University proves the Therapeutic benefits from Laughter Yoga as follows: The change in both General Life Satisfaction and Self Esteem were statistically significant. These findings attest to an immediate impact of Laughter Yoga to increase wellbeing in participants. The increase in wellbeing was supported by a decrease in symptoms of Stress, Anxiety and Depression. The decrease in both Stress and Anxiety was statically significant. These results imply that the effect of laughter Yoga is at least two fold – Laughter Yoga appears to improve positive aspects of wellbeing, simultaneously, Laughter Yoga decreases negative emotions.

BOOM!

Laughter is important because people can easily relate to it as a good time. When did you last have a good laugh? Can you remember it? Was it the best part of your day? Your week? Was it the highlight of your holiday? Laughter is the best way to relate a time with a feeling.

Find Peter on facebook at the Indian Ocean Laughter Club or www.laughterwellbeing.com or www.laughwa.org.au to find their closest club. Simply turn up to a club with an open mind and wear comfortable clothing. I believe that something with such strong benefits will continue to grow and make head way into lives through parks to workplaces to tackle stress and resilience with a light hearted but considered approach.
