Testimonials
Emmanuel Centre is self help under the umbrella of the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth. When we were researching programs to train key parishioners in Parishes about initial encounters with people who may have some mental health issues, we sought programs that would respect the model of self help. Together with that we also looked at who would be presenting the program and whether they had not only the necessary learning but also the experience of life.
On both of these counts the Blooming Minds Institute of Mental Health and Wellbeing's program of Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) and it's presenter, Tasha Broomhall, stood head and shoulders above any others.
Our trust in the program and the presenter were not misplaced. The program provided essential information for dealing with mental illness as well as providing leads for further information. Tasha was an excellent presenter. From the moment she walked into the room we could see a person who was comfortable in being who she is. Our group was a mixed group of participants and Tasha related well with each one and nothing seemed to faze her. Tasha's book learning combined beautifully with her life experiences and the examples she shared were not just theoretical but very practical.
Those that completed the course are well aware of their limitations while at the same time realising that they have enough skills and information to confidently refer people for appropriate action.
We will definitly be invting Tasha back for further courses.
B. Harris, Coordinator, Emmanuel Centre
The mental health sessions we have been running through Blooming Minds have helped reduce the stigma associated with mental health problems and has started a slow change in culture, where it is acceptable to talk about these issues in the workplace. I have had great feedback about employees being able to communicate better with their managers/supervisors in regards to their mental health problems, and also vice versa, with supervisors and team leaders being able to address issues with employees that they didn't previously have the confidence or skills to address. The programs we have run, have led to HR consultants requesting more training in the areas of mental health. Particularly dealing with difficult situations such as grief, anxiety, depression, and other mental health disorders. Implementing these programs has helped raise the profile of mental health, and the executive see this as a priority, and something that should be resourced through OSH in the coming years. Psychological risks need to be addressed, just as physical risks do.
Tasha and her team are very flexible, and are happy to go above and beyond to help our employees and our business. Tasha has a unique ability to build a rapport with employees and create an atmosphere where they feel comfortable to ask advice and seek further support. We will continue to use these services, because the employees have built a relationship with Tasha, and value her as a presenter and a mental health professional. Tasha does not try to put the 'hard sale' on, but actually identifies genuine workplaces needs and works with us to address them. I would recommend Blooming Minds to any workplace, they are friendly, flexible and genuinely care about the mental health needs of our organisation.
H. O'Connell, Health Promotion Coordinator, Water Corporation
The Department of Corrective Services has asked Tasha Broomhall, on many occasions and in a variety of settings, to provide training to the Corrective Services Academy on topics relating to mental health. We have found Tasha to be an experienced and creative facilitator who is able to take dry topics and present them in a way that maintains the attention of the training participant - regardless of their existing knowledge. Tasha does this through interactive and engaging presentations with participants commenting that Tasha's approach is light-hearted, fun and very informative. I have no hesitation in recommending Tasha and Blooming Minds as a provider of training in psychology-based topics.
A.Lindhjem, Staff Development Consultant, Department of Corrective Services.
Clients of LAWA's dispute resolution program often come with a multi problem presentation. A major factor in that 'multi-problem' area is the client's mental health and its bearing on their capacity to participate meaningfully in mediation conferences. Legislation requires us to determine client suitability both before and during conferences. We asked Blooming Minds to do two presentations to our mediators and intake officers about client mental health - specifically on psychosis and related drug issues; and on depression. We asked that the presentations provide some theoretical understanding and importantly be practical in their application.
Tasha's presentations were extremely well received. They were appropriately humourous, soundly knowledge and evidence based and very practical. Tasha provided activities in the presentations that were very relevant and brought home the point of her material. She provided suitable written material for attendees to take away and refer to. Without exception, everyone left the presentations with an expanded 'tool kit' of what to look for, how to think about issues, and how to respond to the person, not 'the problem'.
Tasha obviously has a wealth of knowledge and experience and knows what is and is not achievable in her presentation time-frames. After discussion with us, she tailored her material to our need.
I would unhesitatingly recommend Tasha Broomhall and Blooming Minds to any organisation wishing to upskill their staff in the area of mental health.
M. Proud, Clinical Services Coordinator, Legal Aid ADR Unit
Blooming Minds has provided quality training to Activ's disability support staff since 2010. From the participants point of view Tasha Broomhall delivers enjoyable and engaging training sessions that challenge existing 'blinkered' attitudes and inspire a person-centred perspective. Activ Pathways as a Registered Training Organisation values Tasha's pre-training consultation on training needs, customisation to Activ's policies and practice and prompt lodging of a detailed feedback report. We look forward to an ongoing relationship with Blooming Minds.
Rosemary Kernohan, Training and Assessment manager, Activ
Very positive – great coverage of material I had covered before and very well updated with current research and resources. Tasha’s presentation is excellent: really good at engaging participants and deeply respectful of the clients she discusses; respectful of participant's input even when out-of-date or wrong. Personal experiences (quasi-role play) were very useful. Video clips were very good – realistic, explanatory, grounding.
Good resources, well paced, extremely well illustrated. Every time I thought there was something extra that could/should be added and was about to “show off” my knowledge, Tash would bring it up in the next sentence in a really clear, succinct, respectful way! Well done!
P. Westhorp, Aged Care Clinician
I attended the Mental Health First Aid program conducted by Tasha Broomhall in Aug 2010. Even though I have worked with people in trauma and with people with depression and anxiety for quite some time now, I thoroughly enjoyed the training. I learnt some new tools for working with my clients and consolidated my learning in other areas. In particular I learnt:
- to work with people from where they are at (regardless of whether they have a formal diagnosis or not)
- to appreciate the 'REAL' issues people are contending with when they suffer with depression or anxiety (from DVD)
- how to work with clients with depression and anxiety
- how prevalent these mental health issues are (Stats)
I feel I have added to my tool box considerably by attending the seminar. The booklet (and website and agencies identified in it) and DVD will be a great practical resource.

I was in awe of Tasha's ability to keep the group interested (and on time!), her extensive knowledge of the subject and her familiarity with latest research. Having the booklet and resources to keep as a practical resource is very useful. Thank you.
